Defiance title sequence

For this homework task, i had to research two films of the same genre film of our type and try and gain inspiration of how we could create the title sequence for our films title sequence

Defiance (2008)

After studying the opening title credits for Defiance, I found the style on how this has been done to be very interesting and an intriguing concept, in regards to how we could do our opening credits, due to the way that the use of archived footage from the war suddenly transforms into the historical and current period the film is set. Obviously this film is set in the style of Germany, we could adapt this style to suit our film, which is set during the cold war. This title sequence is different to ones I have seen before due to its shows allot of footage and then only shows two credits in the initial sequence; these are the Production Company and the title of the film. Rather than showing who the star performer is straight away as an important piece of information about the film, after seeing the film and full sequence the remaining essential credits are shown such as the star performer (Daniel Craig), then the smaller credits such as editor. The reason for why the star is not showcased whilst the audience take notice of the credits is because of the star performance the films story is more important than the stars status.). Upon watching the sequence a second time I realise that I like the style this has been done in, with the use of archive footage the type font, which is the same style as a typewriter. Which shows the historical period of the film, and the genre of the film is clear because of the footage of the war and death the audience know what genre the film is. The credits such as the smaller names (editor) are shown after the footage when the film transforms into present footage and appear over the footage. I particularly like the style this has been done in and am definitely considering using this style for our film.
